Ancestral environments of East and South Africa
When we take an evolutionary approach to the human experience, we naturally become curious about the characteristics of the land of our origins. Paleoanthropologists believe that the ancestral environment for the genus Homo was probably a mosaic, semi-wooded grassland: irregular areas of forest, dry fields and wetlands. Some areas of modern-day African are highly suggestive of ancestral conditions. As you view these images, try to imagine the physical, social and environmental challenges that you would face in this kind of world. All images ©2007 Exuberant Animal ©
